New Moon the book

Following Twilight we have New Moon. The second part of the trilogy teachs us two main things: when you don't have what you want, try to go for the next best thing and to be a Mary-Sue is very attractive (for a pedo vampire). Why is that you may ask. The answer is simple: Bella Swan, the clumsy girl from Twilight managed to date Edward Cullen and they're living a very beautiful romance. So far so good. Their time in paradise ends when Jasper tries to attack Bella on her birthday party and Edward decides it's too dangerous for her to stay close to him and his family. He disappears without a trace with the Cullens leaving a very depressive girlfriend behind. Because she's like a drug addict, Bella becomes a zombie for like months until she notices her chilhood friend, Jacob Black. Jake was just a skinny kid with long hair and a cute smile who suddenly became a damn male model with great abs and an eight pack that a girl cannot ignore (so I can't blame Bella). They become close and she starts to smile again and then Jake disappears too. It seems that Jacob is actually a werewolf (but not like the ordinary ones from the movies...he's basically a shape shifter). He has to kill vampires (when he's not in classes, of course) with his pack brothers: Sam (the leader), Jared, Paul and Embry to protect innocent people but they have a peace treaty with the Cullens because they're "vegetarians". So yes, Bella decides that since Edward's gone, Jacob can take his place (nothing wrong here because Jake doesn't mind). Now let's talk about Jake. Seriously...he seemed to be a nice character, although a bit young (16 years old), but from the moment he starts to fall in love with Bella he lost the interest (for fuck sake isn't there any other girls in that shit hole!?) Why Bella? She is boring and clumsy and...boring. Geez...But fine, Jake likes Bella (and apparently so do Embry and Quil), and she enjoys his company until Edward decides to go all suicidal and goes to Italy to die (I could think of better places to die...but Italy's fine). The tricky question is: aren't vampires already dead? Yes. And Stephenie tells us that all the way through the story. Vampires are dead, period. Apparently they can die once and for all if they mess with the Vampire's Mafia, the Volturi. The reason why Edward became a fucking emo was because he thought his beloved Bella was dead too. She should be because she jumped out of a cliff but stupid Jacob saved her life (again we were so close to have a good ending). Then Alice comes back and takes Bella to Italy to save Edward. They reunite and they kiss a lot and the Volturi let them go. The happy couple goes back home, Bella literally breaks Jacob's heart and Edward asks her to marry him. Oh and she also decides she wants to become a vampire (that's something I don't agree with Stephenie (amongst many other things :P) because Bella should at least consider a few things before taking that step, but she doesn't even flinch.).
In all this book is boring as hell but we get to know more characters and more stuff about Jacob and the pack. It's refreashing to have more details on the wolves and that's all. On to Eclipse.

Night Vision of Hong Kong

One of my hobbies:
This puzzle was given to me when I was about sixteen years old by my godfather. It has 1500 pieces and it's now on a frame and ready to put on the wall. I really loved it. My first puzzle ever. ^_^

Twilight, the book

So, what to say about Twilight the book? I started reading it because my cousin told me it was a nice story about a vampire and a human who fell in love. The concept is cliché (but everything's cliché nowadays) and the book didn't seem to appeal me that much until chapter 18. I found it boring and...well boring. Bella never convinced me as the female lead and I felt I was watching those teen movies/series about the new girl in town. Bella Sawn is just a regular and unattractive girl who happens to move in to Forks to live with her father Charlie. Like hundreds of other teenagers Bella feels misplaced, I mean she left her mother, her friends and her home in Phoenix to live in a small town with the father she never really got to know. Charlie turns out to be a very good character opposite his daughter. Once in Forks Bella isn't bullied like we might think she would (she's the new girl, she trips and falls all the time and yet she's a freaking superstar), oh no she actually manages to draw the attention of none other than Edward Cullen, the hot single vampire on the block. Okay now the book turns from Bella's constant whining about moving to this shitty town and having to make new friends to Bella's constant hormonal thoughts about Edward. I get it...Edward is the most handsome man on the planet but...come on...Anyways Bella realises Edward is weird and starts to search information about the Cullens and about well...people like Edward (if you can call them people). She finally finds out he's a vampire and that should be the most interesting part of the book but you know what? Bella ruins everything (I never thought I would see one single character ruin so many things in my life.) she accepts the truth as if it were completely normal to find a freaking vampire walking around the street. For crying out loud! She's in a car in the middle of the night with a stranger who happens to be a vampire (okay...a hot vampire but a vampire nonetheless) and she tells him it's fine??? What...the Hell! She didn't scream, she didn't find it weird, she didn't ask questions, she just accepted the fact naturally. That's bullshit. So after that I stopped reading for a couple of days. Then we got to know the other Cullens. I liked them...honestly. I liked Carlisle (a lot) and the others too. I liked Rosalie's coldness, Esme's kindness, Alice's weirdness, Emmett's playfullness and Jasper's...(whatever Jazz is). They make a nice vampire family but then again there's nothing more than information about the characters until chapter 18 when James, Victoria and Laurent show up. That's the best part of the book to me. The baseball game is interrupted and the hunt begins. Bella finally shows some human emotions when she's worried about her parents and scared that they might die because of her. The end is kind of boring again. Like the selfish little girl she is, Bella tries to convince Edward to turn her into a vampire because she loves him so much, even though they hardly know each other. Now I wish Steph Meyer had ended the story there and made Bella's wish come true, that way I wouldn't have to put up with Breaking Dawn. But that's another story...So if you want to waste your time and money reading an average book, read Twilight. If you prefer to see the movie...be my guest because I think it's a very good adaptation but let's face it...this is not a great book, it doesn't even comes close. Don't let yourself be fooled by the popularity of this saga, for your own good.

See you next time...

Twilight Dilemma

People don't seem to understand how can somone read all the books and watch all the films from the Twilight Saga and call herself an Anti-Twilight Fan. Yes, I'm a fan or should I say it I'm an Antwilight Fan because I simply hate what Mrs. Meyer did in her last book. I've gotta be honest, she did well until Eclipse, but Breaking Dawn...What the hell! Breaking Dawn deserves a post of its own. The Twilight Saga is cliché at first, gets better in New Moon and Eclipse and it's ruined by Breaking Dawn. I'm an open-minded person. I prefer books and films about historcial events (I've got a degree in History for a reason) but I grew up watching Buffy and Angel and I can't be blamed for trying with Twilight, right? I mean I did read Harry Potter and The Lord of The Rings. I even enjoy The Chronicles of Narnia. So I tried Twilight and although it interested me at first I got bored and I hated the end. I don't hate the story, the characters or even the name Renesmee (although it's the most stupid name in the history of novels), I just can't accept what the author did to her work by writing Breaking Dawn. I mean seriously? Is that what she really wanted to do with the story? It's really hard to believe. Sorry...By the way, Vampires Suck is awesome. Check it out.

Next post...Twilight the Book

Happy Birthday to my sister!!! ^^

Tekken Film

Ten years ago, when I was 18 years old, I went to a kid's birthday party. He was my mother's godson and he had a Playstation and I ended up playing a few matches with my sister. We played Tekken 3 and I remember I particularly enjoyed the fact that once we ended up a full round with a player we could see his or her story. I loved the idea of kicking someone's ass and have a motive for that. It wasn't just violence since the game actually has a plot. So we bought a PSOne plus Tekken 3 and we've been following the game ever since. It was such a rush to play Tekken 4 and 5...and a few years ago it was finally announced a film. Like all other games that were adapted into films Tekken ruined the magic. I had the displeasure of watching the film this weekend and I was shocked beyond belief. The argument was cliché and Alan B. McElroy missed the game's plot and focused on something just slightly related to the original story. I guess they thought the fans would be satisfied by simply watching the characters in their trademark costumes. WTF! I felt like I was wacthing some random film from which I didn't know anything when in reality I know pratically everything about the Tekken plot and its characters. The battle scenes are pretty good, I have to admit that, but the rest is just plain stupid. One thing Tekken fans are used to is to see Heihachi Mishima as one of the most badass bosses of the Mishima Zaibatsu and in the film Heihachi is a nice old granpa. Kazuya is a cold and heartless rapist and a womaniser who has two lovers as bodyguards: Anna and Nina Williams (in the game the sisters are mortal enemies and under no circumstances they would share a man!!!). Jin is a brave young man, who knows nothing about his father and finds out that his mother was once raped by Kazuya. It also seems he inherited his father's taste for women because he has a girlfriend back at home and still flirts with Christie, who by the way is not related to Eddy in any way, although in the game she's his student. So they mixed fighters from all the games and left out several who are important to the story. I especially noted the absence of Xiaoyu, Julia Chang, Paul Phoenix, Hwoarang and Lee Chaolan. In the film Steve Fox is a veteran fighter and not a young boxer. If you're a real Tekken fan, don't watch the film, it will hunt you down in your sleep forever. I'm doomed.

National Health System Sucks

There's not much more to say...The portuguese national health system sucks big time. I need to go to the doctors and I asked my mother to book me an appointment at the local Health's Center and guess what??? They can't book me an appointment because everything's full. So I can only book one in January meaning the doctor will see me only in February/March. I guess they should start replacing Health Center's for Cemeteries or Mortuary Houses, huh? That would be probably more efficient in my opinion.

Doubts

I'll never know why I created a damn blog. This is totally knew to me and a bit "weird" since I don't like to write stuff about me or what I think (which is precisely what I'm doing right now.) So for now I'll just write random stuff about my country, my University and whatever I feel like it. That's it.
